Odd numbers on a 1942 engine.
We have an allu.-engine here with odd numbers.
The motornr. in fact is 1602266, according to the lists on this site that number does not exist, but the engine is also stamped with 2. 42 with a ring arround 42.
So it's an engine from Feb 1942. It's original DKW because the four Auto-Unionrings can be found everywhere.
Who can clear this?

Hi Martin,
Probably a spare part engine from -42 where the engine number has been stamped afterwards by someone.
As you can see from the lists DKW uses running engine numbers and the very last NZ:s with cast iron engines had numbers starting on 150xxxx.
Interesting primary drive with double-row chain, is it from a NZ500 or some post war RT?

Re: Odd numbers on a 1942 engine.
Hello Frank,
It's a normal 350 engine, and we know that the last engines (iron-Grauguss) where
starting with 150xxxx
But this is a Alluminium-engine, made till 1944 and it has a number even higher then the last known Iron/ Grauguss-engine.
In 1945 it was 'Ende' no NZ-engines anymore, so how do we explain this high number on a 1942 engine ?
Regards, Martin

Re: Odd numbers on a 1942 engine.
Hi Martin,
I mean its most likely a engine which is manufactured in february -42, but was sold as a separate spare engine (part number 122000-0) from the factory (without an engine number) and the engine number has been stamped afterwards.
According to my knowledge the very last alu engines 1944 had a engine number starting with 135xxxx.
I have a 12/43 engine starting with 135xxxx. Also if you check the owners list you can see that the very last NZ 350/1943 alu engines from spring -44 had engine numbers starting with 135xxxx
I also have a engine from 11/41 and it starts with 112xxxx and a 1/43 engine that starts with 118xxxx, so a -42 factory mounted engine number should be between these two.

Re: Odd numbers on a 1942 engine.
Hi,
Just out of interest my NZ350 has an aluminium engine dated 5(39) and 11(39) with engine number 1405XXX / 72 which obviously dates it later. Unusually I have some history in that the engine came from a hay loft in Solvenia. I was once bolted to a wehrmacht DKW NZ350 remains. I assumed too that when supplies where low around 1944 they send out all spares.
