Grease gun made by METROLUB - original NZ equipment?

Post by M.Schlenger » Thu Jan 16, 2014 9:48 am

Dear all,

I am looking for a grease gun similar to that in the DKW parts list no. 58 (page 64, chart 31). As the images are said to be quite accurate, I was wondering if it is possible to identify one with the same proportions and features.

Actually, I have come across a grease gun which pretty much resembles the one in the parts list.

It's a grease gun made by METROLUB (located in Offenbach near Frankfurt/Main) with an overall lenght of 15.2 cm and a distinctive cover cap. The acronym D.R.P. below the brand name stands for "Deutsches-Reichs-Patent".

If you take a look at the pictures, you may judge for yourself: ... 9z_png.htm ... h6_png.htm ... vj_png.htm

Does anybody know, whether this grease gun was part of the original tool equipment of DKW NZ motorcycles?

I am aware that the individual owner may have used any grease gun of similar size that was available in the 1930s and 1940s. Still, I'd like to know, if DKW used grease guns from a certain manufacturer as original equipment for their motorcycles. I find it hard to believe that they made the guns themselves, even if they assigned an individual number to it in the parts catalogue.

Maybe someone could shed some light on this issue.

The Metrolub with DRP-markings seems to be the original grease gun for the DKW-NZ (and other WH-motorcycles). Without these markings could be postwar.
