Oil flow in engine

Perhaps a stupid question, but I can't figure it out by studying the engine...:

I see where oil goes from the clutch housing into the gearbox, two "large" holes aprx 5 cm from the bottom of the housing. But when you drain the oil, how does it leave the gear box? Or doesn't it? If so, how do you drain the gearbox? Tilt the engine? or take it appart?

Hi Svenn,

I really dont know!! I think you are right, that you can not drain the gearbox completely. I think the only possibility, is to tilt the whole bike to one side, but still this will leave some oil in the gearbox.

Why this is so...do bloody idea.

The question that then pops up,,is... after rebuilding the engine,, how much oil should one add,,, compared to just draining the oil for normal maintenance??? Manual talks about 1 litre, and also the top level indicator inr the clutch housing...

I see the user manual talks about flushing gears with cleaner---- Somehow this must be drained...one can not expect every day user to tilt the whole bike???

I feel a bit stupid asking,, but after several years studying different manuals for vehicles I have restored...I find this among the most confusing... unless there is a hole i have not found letting the gear oil drain wtih engine is in level.

hey sven

the oildrain plug hole does connect to both sides of middle of housing.
its for sure i overhauled three engines al the same.

Hmmm I will check my reserve engine housing, since my engine now is put together,, but I am pretty sure there was no bypass at the drainplug on my engine to the gearbox. I may be wrong of course
