...but now the important questions:

1. What does the sign on the tank mean.

2. What kind of rear suspension is used? Looks like the later IZH suspension (I know that this is impossible). The NZ500 rear suspension (made under license from Benelli-Italy) lokks completely different. Maybe the IZH suspension was also a Gerrman wartime design?

3. Did anyone realise the strange rear fender.

4. Who bought this historically important picture? I would lve to publish it officially on the homepage.

No idea about the tank sign. Does anyone have any pictures how the rear suspension used on NZ in 1943 looked like (if they really were manufactured)??? Could this be some kind of proto for the 43 rear suspension???

Hard to say the age of this bike, some signs tells that its quite old(1938-39):
-Seems that the light switch is of the oldest type
-The strap holding the battery are of the pre 1940 type
-There are no supportstubes for the luggage holder
-On another picture of this bike in ebay, there can be seen that the front light bezel is chrome plated

Of course all of those parts could have been changed/modified during the war.

Notice also the crude camouflage painting, the engine and even the spulenkasten are painted.

I have seen similar modifications on fenders on IZH-350/IZH-49 here in Finland and the have all been "homemade".

The image is still for sale on ebay, maybe someone who speaks german, could contact the seller to get more info?

Yes, the NZ350 was produced with rear suspension in early 1943. The chassis numbers are 609001-612000. It was a special order from the NSKK. The Suspension was the same a sthe NZ500. I am so sure because I saw already two of those bikes myself.

Thanks for the info Thomas :) Should be interesting to see a wartime picture of a bike with the rear suspension of the NZ500 type. Now and then there are bikes with post war rear suspension modifications for sale.

Could the unit signs be 1./AR75? Check http://www.deutsches-afrika-korps.de/vi ... =31&t=5544

Image 026, the sign looks quite the same.

Unfortunatly the seller was not willing to send a digital kopie from the picture, the buyer could not be traced. The picture did € 42,50 ! Perhaps that the seller is a member of this site, maybe he is willing to send a scan to Thomas ?
Friendly regards, Martin

I think there is a steel rake in front of the fender (on both sides) stabilizing the rear suspension. The fender itself seems to be the normal part.

The sign is a tactical character- howitzer. Caliber can not be seen. Taktisches Zeichen einer Haubitzenbatterie. Kaliber ist nicht zu erkennen.
