Hello everyone,

just had my clutch start slipping. I was wondering what oil does everyone use in their gear box?

I will get a set of new plates from Stemmler, but I need to make these last better than the cork plates.

Someone told me any good quality multigrade oil ( shell 20W50) here in SA.( It doesn't get too cold here) Todays oils are of superior quality to the 40's, but I'm in the same boat as you in that I would also like confirmation on this before using it.

I dont think 20-50 modern oil will be OK, i think it has additives in which might lead to clutch slip.

The best I can find in the German text handbooks is "engine oil" and Whermacht motor oil, it doesnt state what grade it should be, at a guess I would think a straight SAE 30 or 40 would be a safe bet. But I would like confirmation before changing it.

Hi folks,

I can suggest Milleroil M30. This is a SEA 30 oil without any "harmful" additives. This oil let your clutch grip nicely. It does NOT restore a worn clutch!!

I have no idea if Milleroil is availabe in SA, but it definetly is available in the UK. (I think it is british made).

Thanks Thomas, I belive the straight 30 miller oil is in fact Silkolene oil in different bottles, Owned by Fuchs Oils, a German company, so the wheel turns a full circle.

I wouldnt go for synthetic, you must be able to get straight mineral oil 30 SAE.

I've ordered Silkolene Chatsworth 30 from my local bike shop, I get my premix two stroke from there, Thats Silkolene as well. It may be sold as Fuchs Oil in SA, Thats where the reply to my email enquiry came from.

Try This, Silkolene is owned by Fuchs Oil. Or alternativly try Miller oil they sell the same oil in different bottles.


Your local bike shop should be able to get it for you, I've just bought 3 litres, from the local Yamaha dealer took a week to come.

hi guys oil problems ?

use an plain sae 30 oil lubricates the push bar in the main shaft,and the bronze bearings .

you also can get the oil on suplier barges on rivers they use it in gearboxes and if you use sae 30 al the shifting problems are solved

o yeah if you use synth oil leaks will come .
