coil box/spulenkasten
When trying to start the engine the coil got very hot and started leaking some
kind of resin.. what just happened??
the fuses didn't burn trough so the voltage wasn't too high I guess??
Something else I encountered, the control light of the switch/zundschloss was
burning without the key in it!
Did I made a mistake in connecting the wires or is there another problem??
all help is welcome!
Kind regards, Dirk

Re: coil box/spulenkasten
When the ignition is on and the machine is not running, the coil can become hot, when the ignition contact is closed. That is normal. Remember the advice' Zündung nur zur Fahrt einschalten'.Your problem is, the ignition is on, when the Key is not in. You should Check your wiring.

Hello Matthias,
Thanks for your quick answer!
I now, I will check all of the wires and try again..!
The coil isn't useable anymore since the resin came out?
kind regards, Dirk

Re: coil box/spulenkasten
Maybe it got damaged, you must try...
Maybe the Problem is the ignition switch itself.
Maybe the Problem is the ignition switch itself.
Re: coil box/spulenkasten
I have 2 more but they don't fit exactly.. althought the audi logo is on them.
Checked the wiring, according to the wiring diagram I have correctly connected al the wiring! frustrating since the wiring connections seem to be the problem.

Re: coil box/spulenkasten
The coil should not have voltage, when the key is not in. Try to find out, where the Voltage comes from.

in the original pdf of the elektro diagram there is a wire running from 108 to zh 15/54,its color is RED according to the diagram.
in my diagram the same wire is BROWN colored in the diagram and also the wire itself is brown (black with brown running like a corkscrew).
Would it matter that there is this difference in wire colours??
kind regards, Dirk

Re: coil box/spulenkasten
I think not, when you connected the right terminals. Check, if you have a short circuit between 15 and 30 at the coil box, than the ignition would always be on. Behind the Terminals there should be a piece of paper for isolation. When you put the end of a wire too far through the terminal, than it may touch the regulator.
