Hi,

Does this type of Amal schwimmerkammer come with this vergaser ?
Where there any differences between older and newer types of M76/426 carbs ?
Which was the most common and best performance carburettor to fit on NZ 350 & 1 ?

Hi Martins,

The only difference between later and earlier M76/426 that I know, is that the housing is reinforced behind the clamp on later ones.

The M76/426 seems to be the most common carb on NZ250/350 that I have seen, Bing number two and Graetzin the most scarce.

I dont think there is any big difference in performance between the carbs, they are all quite similar in the construction and size.

No idea about the float bowl, there is a similar on the ebay for the moment and there was also a pre war carb for maybe a SB200 last week with a similar float bowl.

Did some comparing and found similarities/differences between DKW NZ 350 & IZH 350 carburettors :)
First edition (till middle 1949) IZH-350 carb K-40 copied from BING AJ2/24
Second edition IZH-350 carb K-28 copied from Amal M76/426

Inner parts of carb K-28 & M76/426 are compatible. External top and bottom thread sizes between both carbs differ. K-28 carb adjustment screws apart from M76/426 have fine thread, similar difference with jet thread.
Top and bottom carb nuts of M76/426 have a little bit smaller thread than on K-28, and yes - float chamber is totally different too.

The Russian K78-carburator is almost the same as the Amal-carb.
What is written that the thread is different is true, the parts can not be changed for Amal-parts. The floating-chamber however could be changed.
The K28 runs proper with a Zyklon-filter, when an oilfilter is mounted the nozzle must be changed.

With the help of a forum member got some of the spare parts that I was missing.

Made a replica of top nut for M76 vergaser.

There is no manufacturing date stamped on this M76 vergaser. Are there any notable signs that would show in what year it was made ?

Original IZH-350 vergaser K-28 have clearly stamped date and year on bottom screw of the vergaser. See picture below:
