Wiring Harness

Post by svenn » Tue Jun 12, 2007 10:39 pm

Does anyone know of a vendor that sells good wiring harnesses? I have seen some on ebay, but they are all made of modern rubber cable andwith modern juncion-ends.....

I would like a more Oldtimer look harness. Does anyone know if Stemmlers harnesses are the same?

Does anyone have a tip where to have look.

Thanks

HI Svenn,

I dont think you will find someone who sells the wiringloom in the quality you are looking for.

The loom of the NZ is very simple and straightforward. I suggest that you make it yourself. I bought from Kabel-Schmidt the cables in the correct colours and diameters (they also have clothbound cables) see hhtp://www.kabel-schmidt.de/donwload.php

Then I made all the correct connections and routed the cables according to the pictures in the original manuals. Whenn all was well, I used black cloth tape, also from the above source, and wrapped the loom with it.

Regards

Have ever anyone tried to make a drawing with meassurements of the wiring harness?

I just can't believe that not anyone makes a high quality harness of the rigth material.

If anyone has a repro harness, I would love to have a drawing with colours and meassurements of the length of the different looms and cabel ends.... And then try this firm:

http://www.vintagewiringofmaine.com/

They make beautyful harnesses. I have it on one of my jeeps.

A drawing would also help the other people on this site to make a "vintage" harness themselves.

What i the correct type of loom on the bike?

Anyone who has pics of the old cables? Were they in one color, or braided with different colors?

And what sizes of cabel do you use on your bikes?

Found this firm as a possible source for old style cables:

I see that Oldtimer garage has a old style wiring harness for the 350.

The wires has cotton loom. Old wires on my bike indicates the use of rubber wires.

Any thoughts?

Hi Svenn,

I thought it was a good idea to post your picture of the original "Maschinenkabel" the rubbercoverd cable which goes from the controlbox to the dynamo.

Best regards and please excuse my interference with your topic

No interference at all Thomas!! Thanks for posting the picture. I believe i have a original 3 wire black laque cable as well. I will try to take a picture.

The whole wiring issue is a bit of a mystery. Not easy to find pictures of original wiring.

Heres a pic of the wire which were connected to the tank switch.

Blue, green and red wire. The inner cables are rubber, outside i some kind of cotton loom with black colour.

It looks old, but wiring diagram for the NZ shows no 3-wire cable with these colours. :?: :?:

Hello,

There is a guy in Latvia, who makes wiring kits for old motorcycles.
He makes them from cottonbraided wires. Also for DKW.I used his kits on my IZH-350 and NSU 251 OS WH.
You can find some of his DKW kits from here-
