Opinions on NZ350

I am extremely new to DKW's, but am very interested in finding one.. Prefer it to be state side, due to import and shipping costs. They are very rare in the US, for obvious reasons. I found this one on craigslist, does anyone have any opinions on the bike? I don't know enough about them to tell what is really correct or not, still learning! I am much more proficient with wartime US jeeps, I completed a frame off factory class restoration on a 1943 Ford GPW, so I'm a little out of my comfort zone when it comes to German bikes.

Thanks,

This NZ looks like a 350/43-model with flat fenders, no kneepads on the tank, ‘Hasag’ MT-130 Front-lamp. However in that case the engine must be stamed VG (Verstärktes Getriebe). When it is a realy 350/43 then it’s a rare model, made only for a few month. PS after 1941 no civil NZ’s where produced, only for the Army. To check the exact building year, a frame-number would be usefull. Also an engine-number. Is the VIN- (Frame-) number) realy 991073? Such number is total unknown ! However when this is the the engine number, it is an engine from May 1939.

As far as could see it’s a good restauration object. I could help you with missing parts. However I need more pictures to judge.

Sadle cover is not original, should be Pagusa with another profile as your sadle.

The left support-arm from the sadle is broken at the nose (easy repair)

Tacho meter is missing, can be bought as very good and new repro for arround € 150

Airfilter is from a Russian ISH350, is okay as long as you don’t have a replace for it. The ISH-filter is very simular tot he original.

Petrol-lid is not original but I think it’s WW2 from another WH-bike. As long as it does it’s job, it’s okay.

Fueltap is Russian, Good repro’s are for sale arround 50-60 euro’s. Even originals are for sale so no wand then.

The middle support beneeth on the rear-fender is missing, easy repair when you have a picture from ho wit should be.

Ignition-switch is missing, very rare and expensive part!

Bakelite Handlebar-adjuster is missing, for sale as good repro.

Regards,
Martin

Well it looks like I missed it, it sold really quick. I missed another 1839 DKW a year or two ago, it seems like they get snatched up pretty quick over here in the states. Oh well, someday I'll be able to find a good bike. I need to keep researching in the meantime.

Thanks for the help!
