DKW NZ 350

Ok guys, my NZ 350-1 has been running strong, been to many reenactment/car shows, but I do have this one issue...it keeps eating batteries. I know its not the magneto because the ignition light turns off after the bike starts up, but it appears to be something else. Any advice?

Try taking off the negative pole of your battery everytime when the engine is not running for a longer time. It may be that somewhere in the electrical system a positive cable touches metal. When the battery still won´t work any further try a better one, I had one for 7,95 Euro´s on my bike that needed to be filled with acid and to be charged every two weeks. Now I bought a better one in old design which not needs to be filled with acid, and I have no problems with this battery, I can leave it in the bike without problems for weeks, it is always be charged.

How about going to a solid state gel battery. Buy yourself a good 6 volt battery from Battery mart in the USA, get a empty battery box and pop the little 6 volt acid free battery in there. I have been using these kind for over 5 years, not one single problem.

Mike, where can one get an empty battery box? I am having the same problems with my batteries. Thanks

Try ebay or ask a supplier for historic bikes, some sell empty boxes, or boxes in old-style look equipped with the modern batteries as shown above.
