Meanwhile some-one told me he has 11-1 (from left to right) in a 1944 NZ-1
with motornumber 1503673.
He believes that the numbers are for to differ the casting-molds.
So we have now;
12 -12, 21 -21, 11 -1, 8 - 1
In this topic I tried to kopie a tabel with engine-numbers etc. , it failed.

It becomes still more strange now; a reaction with pictures and data from fiischma11

The "x" on both sites fom the engine.
The hoizontal "P" beneeth the Auto-Union-rings.
Even still stanger, the positive script "NZ 50" and "250" instead of the normal script NZ350-1.
I never heard of a Grauguss (Ironcast) 250 engine........
Picture 1 Motordatum 6-44
Picture 2; Motordate 8-43 bis 2-44 (o.h.o. cylinder and inne parts)
Picture 3; Motordate 8-44 "X" is on both Engine-sites.
maybe as spare-part ??
It would be interesting to know if RT125 nA-engines have also such numbers ???

Re: Strange letters on a left lid from a NZ 350-1 Grauguss-m
And again, clear to see "NZ 250" !!!
The 250 however was not in production anymore since the 350 Iron/Grauguss-engine was produced in late 43.
To my opinion it was meant as replacement engine for older 250th.
Were the 250 and 350 engines in that time the same, only difference in ccm?
I wonder if anyone has a original complete 250 Grauguss-engine?
Martin

More numbers came in; 29 - 12
So now we have;
8 - 1
11 - 1
7 - 12
8 - 12
12 - 12
14 - 12 on clutch-lid
15 - 1
15 - 12
26 - 12
29 - 12
21 - 21
Till now nobody could tell for sure what the use of these numbers was.

Martin

Re: Strange letters on a left lid from a NZ 350-1 Grauguss-m
Since the number on the iron engine that i have is hard to understand (rusted off) i did some research to understand what month/year it might be.
Engine have got letter "X" on both sides of the blocks.
Searching web i found some pictures of engines with same "X" markings on both sides of the blocks.
*140 6080*
*140 6116*
*140 6657*
*140 6750* ("X" marking on right side block_engine 08.1944.)
Looking from the data base they could be dated 09.1944.
These engines have something common, they all are 6000 engines !
Does anyone, apart from these, also have iron engine blocks with a letter "X" ?
Reagrds,
Martins

You should go to the Police with your engine, they can help you with the vanished number like they do with weapons and cars with vanished numbers.
I think would like to help you with something total different as weopons and cars.

Martin

Hello, on my 45´er NZ engine, there are on the right side 7 12 markings, on the left side 26 12 markings.(early 45 bike) I think this markings are only on late 44 or 45 dated bikes.
On my 44`er NZ engines, there is the X marking.
Enginenumber 1404747 and 1405173

I already went to a transport registration institution and they scanned the number place with some special device, but no result. They told me to grind the surface a bit and then use some kind of acid - maybe this could work.martdapp wrote:You should go to the Police with your engine, they can help you with the vanished number like they do with weapons and cars with vanished numbers.

I'm not sure if i want to do this, like damaging the surface even more - just leave the place as it is.
I you look closely in daylight some trace of number can be seen like *14_._.61_*
I believe that the number could be *140661?* - this would mean that the engine is dated autum 1944.

Can you please post a picture, so the "X" marking can be seen ?fischma11 wrote:Hello, on my 45´er NZ engine, there are on the right side 7 12 markings, on the left side 26 12 markings.(early 45 bike) I think this markings are only on late 44 or 45 dated bikes.
