The "Packtaschen" (Package Boxes) Thread

There are loads of post war reproductions for the Package boxes on the market, prices rise up to 700 Euros each for a perfect metal package box in original condition. The leather boxes were used and produced by/for the german army long after the war for service purposes on Maico, DKW RT 200 and Hercules bikes.

So I consider it as a good idea to start this thread. Every owner please post pictures of your 100% original Package boxes, to help Newbees save their hard won money...

Let`s go!

I`ll make the start.

A late war metal package box, produced by Karl Baisch, Autokoffer - Fabrik, Stuttgart - Bad Cannstadt. Original preserved, but someone painted the original sandbeige colour over... :(

Note how the welding of the handle grip was done, very rough, as the worker had to hurry...

Image

Most original boxes have a flat cover hatch inside, repro boxes often have screws or rivets or in some cases slots or pits where the handle grip is fixed (The rivets are OK on early boxes, but no screws)...

Image

Here pictures of another box , even late war, but earlier, of Karl Baisch, note the differences even on a box by the same producer:

- There are two slots for the (older) box holders on the upper holder bar
- The handle grip is welded much tighter and becomes higher
- The hinge of the cover hatch was deburred after being welded, no holes are visible...

Image

There were cardboards inside to shield the metal from cluttering stuff inside the box:

The producer`s name was simply stamped inside the cover hatch, there are no further markings (Early boxes may have the WAa-stamp):

Hello,

another unusual 'packtasche' ; this one was for sale on a Military Fair a year ago. (The black part is a rubber bumper for the lock.)

Best regards,

Remind that Ebay-links will disappear after some times.
so here the picture. Looks like the case is still in original color.
