My DKW now has a new owner

Post by cudaman82 » Fri Dec 18, 2009 4:01 pm

Its with a heavy heart that I part with my DKW NZ 350-1 but I decided to sell it to purchase a MP40 here in the US (MP40's are expensive here due to the registration system having closed down in 1984). Anyhow the new owner will be receiving his bike here before the end of January and I will be informing him to stop by and register here to get info/parts/etc. I have had an amazing time owning my DKW over the last 2 years and I really hope that in the future I can pick up another one. These are truely robust and beautiful motorcycles and I'd pick a DKW over a BMW or Zundapp any day of the week. Thanks again for everyones help here and I wish you the best with the new year! Happy Holidays!

Cudaman82 sold his NZ 350-1 to me. After a few repairs and parts replacements, it is now in better condition and runs very well. Does anyone have any good pictures of the lower chain guard? I need to make a replica of one.

Thanks, but for this part, I would rather make a reproduction myself. Does anyone have pictures or dimensions of the lower chain guard?

Also, the light on the rear fender is made from bakelite and is not similar to other NZ 350-1 light's I have seen. Is this part from an IZH 350?

The taillamp looks like a early 50's (maybe wartime) "Eber" taillight. In any case, it is not correct.

Hallo,
the tail light is a tail light by IKA (witch nose), DDR of about 1950-56, used at IFA RT125, EMW, AWO.
If it is original, too rare and much sought after.
We could swap.

I would be willing to swap, but you should know the condition in which I found this light first. A section of the light was broken and missing and was repaired with red epoxy and painted as shown in the pictures. Also, the original clear lens was yellowed, opaque, and broken and was rpelaced with modern plastic. I need a complete light assembly that is correct for the NZ 350-1. I could trade you the light housing and internals, minus the light bulb which I need to keep. Unfortunately I had to cut a small section of the license plate to accomodate the witch's nose and would have to fix that somehow.

The witch's nose light is held on with two bolts. Would I have to change the holes in the fender to accomodate the NZ 350-1 light?

Hi,
Can you take me a photo of the base plate and a photo showing the inside of the rearlight? As can be seen if it is original or a reproduction.
And I have to look if I have a complete rearlight for NZ.

Hi,
Your tail light is an original.
Below a picture from the rear light I could offer.
The hole pitch of your tail light is about 76 mm, in the photo 78mm - 82mm

RTWOLLE, I sent you the "witches nose" tail light in the mail today. It should arrive in one week. Please send me the DKW tail light as soon as possible, so I can ride my motorcycle again legally. (We require tail lights here!)
