NZ Info WW2

Hello and thank you for adding me to this interesting board.

I live in Romania, Oradea and lately during my metal detection expeditions have come across motorcycle parts which I believe to be of World War 2 Wehrmacht NZ 350's.

For one of them I would like you help and support in propery identifying it. It's a plate I dug up yesterday and it belongs I believe to the carburetor (Vergaser) and it gives out specifications which I cannot figure out or pinpoint to some exact dimensions and shapes of the actual device.

And here some other items I found belonging to this model, plate number and petrol controler by MZAG. Can you tell me more details about MZAG ? Also the plate has been restored via oxalic acid bath but sadly the markings on it vanished along with the rust and 70 years burried in the ground...

Hallo,
The plate gives the settings of a Solex? carburetor. I am sure it has nothing to do with DKW NZ. MZAG is Motorenwerke Zschopau Aktiengesellschaft, that produced DKW motorcycles. It was a part of the Auto Union. You find the MZAG sign on many DKW parts.

On the plaquette is written beneeth 'Auf die Schwungscheibe', possible a clou.

"Auf der Schwungscheibe" relates to the ignition timing. 9mm on the flywheel after the pistons is on top. This is not NZ.

I thought MZAG which appears on many DKW pre-war bikes stood for "Metalwerke Zöblitz AG" one of many J.S. Rassmussens companies.

Sorry, I think TM250 is right. I was confused, because the factory was always called Zschopauer Motorenwerke AG, the products were called DKW. Sorry for that.

The alu plate and the fuel tap are not from a DKW NZ, rather from some other German vehicle or engine.

But I saw MZAG produced things for the NZ 350. What does MZAG stand for?

That is right, You find MZAG on parts of the brakes and wheels of the NZ 350, but also on other vehicles. It was a Factory, that made only parts like fuel taps.

As I have stated before, MZAG stands for Metalwerke Zöglitz AG. This factory was producing parts for DKW (and others) already in the late 20-ies and became part of the DKW boss Rasmussens "empire".

How about the carburetor plate ? That cant be from a vehicle like a Kubelwagen but rather an NZ or other type of motorcycle by the specs. Any ideas guys ? The numer plate is clearly from an NZ and also the Benzimhahn no matter what you think. I saw this type of fuel gauge on an NZ 350 ...

This is the adjustment plate for a carburetor Solex 30 BFL, used for example in the jeep, but also stationary engines with 500cm3 as EL462.
In no event at the NZ 350-1.
look around in Google for Solex 30 BFL, which is indeed on the plate.
And you will find enough answers. Just do not DKW NZ 350
